The website functions through a seamless blend of innovative communication tools, user-friendly features, and a nurturing community.  The goal is to empower young people to prioritise their mental health and emotional well-being and embark on a journey towards holistic healing and personal growth without fear.

My Proud Contributions to the Intron Project

As the product manager for the Intron project, I was responsible for the overall vision and strategy for the platform. I worked closely with the engineering team to define the product requirements and features. I was also responsible for conducting user research and gathering feedback to ensure that Intron meets the needs of its target users.

Specifically, my roles in the development of the Intron platform included defining the product vision and strategy, conducting user research and gathering feedback, working with the engineering team to define the product requirements and features, managing the product roadmap, and launching and marketing Intron health.

The Product

Intron is a valuable tool that can help healthcare professionals to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care using speech-to-text in over 200 African accents.

The Intron Journey

The Intron project began with a vision to create an AI-powered speech recognition platform that is specifically designed for African accents. The motivation for this project was the realization that existing speech recognition systems often perform poorly when used by people with African accents, which can lead to frustration and errors.

01

My team began by conducting a thorough review of the literature on speech recognition and African accents. We then developed a new training dataset that included a wide variety of African accents. Next was to develop a new machine learning algorithm that was specifically designed for speech recognition in African accents. The algorithm was trained on the new dataset and then evaluated on a held-out test set. The results showed that the Intron algorithm significantly outperformed existing speech recognition systems.

02

Next, the Intron team began to beta test the Intron platform with a small group of healthcare professionals across Africa. The feedback from the beta testers was overwhelmingly positive. The beta testers found that Intron was accurate, easy to use, and helpful in their daily work.

03

The team then went on to launch the Intron platform. The journey to provide the first clinical voice recognition in Africa is still in progres as we are accepting voice contributions from across Africa to further improve the speech-to-text technology.

As the project manager for the Intron project, I am proud of the work that the Intron team has accomplished.

Key Takeaways

  • User feedback is crucial for developing a product that meets the needs of its target users. The Intron team gathered feedback from healthcare professionals at every stage of the development process. This feedback helped the team to improve the Intron platform and make it more user-friendly.

  • The importance of collaboration can’t be over-emphasized. The Intron project was a collaborative effort between engineers, product managers, and healthcare professionals. This collaboration was essential for developing a product that is both technically sound and meets the needs of its target users.

  • I also learnt the importance of perseverance. Developing a new product is a challenging process. There were many setbacks along the way, but the Intron team persevered and was able to launch a successful product.
